Abstract: In this talk we will discuss the HIV biology behind cure research focusing on the latent reservoir. Even after 40 years of research, we still don’t have a cure or a vaccine for HIV. Two major factors explain this fact. The first related to the extremely unstable nature of this virus genome, resulting in the generation of multiple variants within each host. The second one is related to the capacity of HIV to form a latent reservoir where integrated proviruses hide from the immune system and can be re-activated.
